Special Interest Groups                                                     Updated:  August 12, 2007

To promote and accommodate Special Interest Group (SIG) activity, the BCMA will make available face to face meeting opportunities on Pre-Conference Workshop Day, with advance request to the BCMA. Members and delegates who have not submitted a session proposal for the Conference program, (See session E-5 Lower Mainland Museum Educators), can also propose discussion topics for the Ideas Cafes or Networking Dinners, preferably in advance of Conference week.

Cultural heritage organizations may also host workshops, forums, roundtable discussions or regional meetings as part of the BCMA's provincial Conference--as with the Alliance of BC National Historic Sites of Canada (ABCNHSC).  Association (TAA).

Other potential SIG's are representatives of museum types, such as:

  • forts and military museums
  • sports museums and community halls of fame
  • First Nations cultural centres and collections
  • art galleries and artist-run galleries
  • interpretive centres
  • small museums
  • aquariums, wildlife parks or zoos
  • nature centres, parks and conservation areas
  • science and technology centres
  • industrial museums
  • maritime and marine museums
Participating groups are responsible for their session content or agenda, moderator and/or presenter(s), and meeting room cost, however BCMA will assist with promoting a proposed SIG session.

Interested parties are asked to contact BCMA's Member Services Coordinator at:
(250) 356-5700 or email:
