NEW! Province announces $30 million for arts and culture over three years as half of '2010 Sports and Arts Legacy'
Finance Minister Colin Hansen announced today that "Over the next three years, government is allocating $60million for a 2010 Sports and Arts Legacy. Half the funding is to increase youth participation in sport and improved athlete and coach development. The other $30million will enhance existing provincial arts [sic] investments in arts and culture."

The Heritage Tourism Alliance of BC (HTA), in partnership with the BC Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, has developed market ready standards for heritage tourism products.

2009 AGM: Member Advocacy Working Group formed
In response to Provincial funding cuts and concerns for the sector's sustainability, members brought forward a motion to form a member-based working group to expand the BCMA's response to key issues, help articulate sector positions, and sector advocacy strategies. Founding working group members include: Scott Marsden, The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford; Paul Crawford, Penticton Art Gallery; Lynn Beavis, Richmond Art Gallery; Julie Fowler, Island Mountain Arts, Wells, BC; and Sue Morhun, Individual Member, Oliver, BC.

2009 AGM: New Council Members Acclaimed
Mark Sakai, Executive Director of Delta Museum & Archives, assumed
the role of President; Kris Andersen, Individual Member, became Vice-
President; and two new members joined Council at the AGM in Osoyoos,
BC on October 17: Kate Kerr, Exhibit Arts Technician, the Royal BC
Museum; and Chris Mathieson, Executive Director, Vancouver Police
Museum.
140 "Survivors" at Provincial Workshop!
BCMA wishes to thank Chair, Gayle Cornish, and members of the Host Committee for a very successful Provincial Workshop, which drew 140 participants from all over BC, Alberta and Washington State.

Conference Hosts for 2010-2012 Named
(Feb. '09) - Council announced Host institutions and
locations for BCMA's annual provincial Conference for
the years 2010 through 2012:
2010: Nanaimo Museum & Vancouver Island Convention Centre, Nanaimo, BC;
2011: Canadian Museum of Rail Travel, Cranbrook, BC (joint Conference with the
Alberta Museums Association (AMA);
2012: Kamloops Museum, Kamloops, BC (200th anniversary of the founding of
the fur trade fort & part of year-long celebrations).
Actual Conference weeks will be confirmed with hosts & announced.
"Expressions of Interest” (EOI) Invited for Conference 2013 & beyond...
Institutional Members wanting to bring BCMA’s annual provincial Conference to their region in 2013, or over the years following, are invited to submit their EOI as soon as possible…

BCMA Endowment Fund Climbs to over $75,000
BCMA has increased its Endowment Fund by $18,566 in 2008-09 with $10,341 raised this Fall and at Conference 2008; and an 82% final match from the BC Arts Renaissance Fund, increasing the BCMA Endowment Fund to $76,360.94, held in trust by the Vancouver Foundation. BCMA's Development Committee's initial campaign goal is $100,000 for the Campaign's first two years.
Council's Development Committee wishes to thank all donors and sponsors who have contributed to the BCMA Endowment Fund to date. A third and final application to the BC Arts Renaissance Fund has been subject to re-investment in the BC Arts Renaissance Fund by the Province, which has not been forthcoming, to date. BCMA will continue efforts to build the endowment fund as a long term sustainability initiative.
